Anyway I think my favorite driving memory has to be from about 2007. I had been talking to some girl on MySpace (yeah, really) and she had invited me to a party. I wasn't able to make it to the party but since I had her number I texted her with my flip phone and we decided that we should try to meet up. I was at my friends house at the time, and we had all just been skating all day. One of my friends there had a truck that was a manual and I figured I'd ask him if I could take it to go see her.
He responded with "Do you know how to drive stick?" Just to let you know, I think in America at least automatics are much more prevalent than manuals. But anyways I responded "yes", as I had often driven other friends cars that were manuals. He said "Ok, prove it." So I had to go one like a test drive with this fool in his truck around the block a few times. All was well and good and he agreed to let me take his vehicle to meet this chick.
I left at about 10 PM. It was obviously dark out, and I was still slightly worried that I'd get pulled over or something since it was a weekend and I was driving a truck that wasn't mine. Everything works out and I get to the place she's at and there's about 15 people there. We have a few drinks and just hang out and in the end I didn't even end up hooking up with her but I didn't even care. What happened next is the best thing I can remember from my driving experience.
I leave at around 5:30 in the morning. The sun barely rising and the air was clean and crisp. I start to head down this long road that leads to the main avenue that connects the cities. As I am driving down this road, windows down, hand on the wheel, slightly inebriated, Hotel California begins to play. I cannot even describe the feeling of joy that overcame me. With the sun to my left and a view to my right, I turn it up as loud as I can and continue driving. It was close to a 5 minute drive to get to the main avenue, and that was the best part. Lo and behold, the radio goes on to play the full version, which lasts well into the drive on the avenue. I arrive at my friend's house around 6am or so, and they all ask me what happened with the girl. I tell them "Nothing" and they are perplexed. I then decide to turn in for sleep and wake up later in the day with a smug feeling lol.
I never did tell them why I wasn't even bothered that we didn't hook up (at that time it was pretty much expected that if you chill with a girl you hook up). But even still that was one of my favorite days of my life.
I just read through that and it feels very pretentious. Oh well.
You?
