2012-The silly end of the world phenomena

I did some research, and the 2012 end of the world paranoia is even more ludicrous than I thought. Not only is it superstitious paranoia, it's not even based off of any sort of ancient prophecy.

The Mayans didn't predict that the end of the world would be on December 21st, 2012. It's not the end of their calender either, the Mayan Long Count Calender utilizes cycles to measure time. All that date marks is the end of the 13th b'ak'tun, a period of 144,000 days. It's not even their longest measurement of time either, the calender has 4 higher orders than the b'ak'tun.

Furthermore, not only did they not predict that the 21st would be the end of the world, they predicted events that would occur after that date.

Even if the Mayans had predicted the end of the world on that date, I wouldn't say that people who sacrifice themselves to the sun are very credible.

I'm really not great with this social interaction stuff, I suppose. I really didn't mean anything when I said it, but I guess it came off as me trying to call him ignorant or something. I wasn't.

I know, but lately I keep catching myself spelling it as "rediculous" and I don't know why.
