    so yeah that's a thing. today I discovered I can't count. I might need to put some tape on the side of the guitar and write numbers on them to distinguish which fret is which because I'm fucking stupid.

    Aye you gotta start somewhere! When I first started I had trouble even holding the strings down. Are you starting with steel strings or with nylon?

    no idea. I just had a borrowed guitar for the lesson. We're going to a local guitar store recommended to me tomorrow to get one, I'll ask. (we wrote down the exact type of guitar I used)

    Alright cool. Just saying that if you're first starting out nylon strings tend to be a lot easier to work with. They're not really plastic but they're a lot softer than steel strings. Good luck though! And if you are taking lessons you should learn to read music! That's the one thing I wish I had done when I first started learning guitar, though I learned on my own so it would have been a bit more difficult.

    Well I can *kinda* read tabs now. I can't read sheet though. I used to be able to, like barely in the 4th or 5th grade.

    Yeah I only ever learned to read tabs for guitar. When I was taking drum lessons in high school I started to learn how to read music for those, but that's completely different than regular sheet music. Tabs have always just been my go-to when it comes to learning new songs since they're so easy. Keep at it though it gets easier.

    Good luck, I started like a year and a half ago or something and I still suck :') Also, does the guitar you're using have dots in the middle of certain frets? A lot of them have those which kinda helps

    just remember that the fret with the two dots is the 12th, and the ones with the two blank frets on either side are the 9th and 15th
